MATT MCDOWELL is the Chief of Training for the North Charleston Fire Department (SC), Instructor for the South Carolina Fire Academy and President of SAFE Firefighter, LLC. He has previously served as a Captain for the Bluffton Twp. Fire District (SC), Training Officer for the Hardeeville Fire Department (SC), Firefighter for the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department in Prince George’s County, MD and Co-Founder/ Past President of the Lowcountry FOOLS. He has a degree in Fire Service Management, has presented at numerous trade shows including the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, IN and hosts “Street Smart Shop Talk” on Fire Engineering Talk Radio.
JASON (J.J.) JOANNIDES is a Captain with Columbia Fire Department (SC), Instructor with the South Carolina Fire Academy and Vice-President of SAFE Firefighter, LLC. He was previously assigned as a Firefighter on CFD Truck 7, worked in the Curriculum Development Section at the SCFA and is a founding member of the Palmetto FOOLS. He has an Associate’s Degree from UNC-Charlotte and extensive training in truck company operations, aerial operations, RIC and survival from all over the country.
CHRIS GARNIEWICZ is a Truck Captain with the Bluffton Twp. Fire District. He has Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University (MA) and is an IFSAC Fire Instructor 2. He is an Instructor with the SC Fire Academy, Recruit Cadre with the Bluffton Twp. Fire District and has previously served as volunteer firefighter in Massachusetts.
JONAH SMITH is a Captain with the Charlotte, NC Fire Department, and Captain with the Pleasant Valley, SC Fire Department. Jonah is a Captain assigned to Engine 19 in the South Side of Charlotte. Jonah serves as an instructor for Rowan Cabarrus Community College’s Fire Protection Technology program. Jonah is an Instructor II in both North and South Carolina who remains active in technical teaching as well. Jonah remains an asset to his volunteer department serving as an instructor in Engine Operations, Communications, and Firefighter Self Survival. Additionally, as the Chair of the Health and Safety Committee of the IAFF Local 660, Jonah has assisted in planning, formulating, and coordinating tests of safety sensitive equipment in the Charlotte Fire Department. Jonah has also presented at FDIC, Firehouse Expo as well as numerous other training venues and is the lead organizer of the Charlotte Firefighters 9/11 Memorial Stairclimb.
JUSTIN CUNNINGHAM is a Captain with the Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue
CHRIS FORD is a Firefighter with the City of Columbia Fire Department currently assigned to Truck 14.
AJ HOLLOWAY is an Engineer with the City of Columbia Fire Department
CHRIS KIP is a Battalion Chief with the City of Columbia Fire Department where he previously served as the Captain of Truck 7.
DAVID LAIRD is a Battalion Chief with the City of Columbia Fire Department where he previously served as a Captain on Truck 7.
